How to be Converted
Jesus explained, to count the cost before following Him. Luke 14:27 “ Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my
disciple.” The key stumbling block is surrendering your will for His will. If you do not surrender your will for His, you can’t be part of His kingdom. The Bible says, “You are not your own; you have been bought with a price” I Corinthians 6:19-20.
There are four steps to conversion.
Conviction:
John 6:65, Jesus said, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them” (New International Version).
There was a time in your life when you gave no thought to Christ; however, there comes a time when you will think about your relationship with Him. One of the responsibilities of the Holy Spirit is to lead you to the truth. In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” It is the Holy Spirit that enables you to come to Christ.
Confession:
This is where you confess to God your sins and ask for forgiveness. Jesus was very emphatic about being the Lord of your life.
In Luke 6:46 Jesus said, “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?” It is when you accept Christ as Lord, He becomes your Savior. Your sins will be replaced with His righteousness. In 2 nd Corinthians 5:21, Paul writes, “For he (God) hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
Change:
The Bible teaches that a person who follows Christ has been changed from the person he or she was before. Most people know who Christ is but have never been changed. Peter confessed who Christ was at Caesarea Phillipi, but had not been changed (converted) until after he had denied Christ three times. Unless you experience a change from the person you were to a new person in Christ, you have not been converted! Paul stated in II Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things have become new.” As Jesus explained to Nicodemus: “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus said to him, how can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born? Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, you must be born again (John 3:3-7).” Notice, two different times Jesus preceded a sentence with the words Truly, truly. This technique was used as an “Emphasis Marker” in scripture to make clear there will be no exceptions! It is an absolute condition of salvation. You must be born again by the water and the spirit. No exceptions! How do you know you have been born again? The Holy Spirit will reside within you. This is called the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
Commitment:
This is where we acknowledge our new relationship with Christ as the Lord of our life. We are baptized in obedience to Him. Baptism is a form of confession. Everyone who followed Jesus was baptized. There was only one exception, the thief on the cross. Do not let anyone deceive you into thinking it is not important. It is the will of God that all of us created in His image know Him. We can only come to Him through His Son, Jesus. Pray and ask your Father to lead you to Him through His Holy Spirit. It will be a prayer that will be answered and a decision, you will never regret.
